Reprint of the first edition of the first American work on the subject. Based on British models, it considers matters of jurisdiction, apprehension of accused persons, evidence, sentencing, appeals and courts of inquiry.

First published in New York inthis title is the first Anglo-American treatise on courts-martial (and the edition was one of the first law books printed in America).

It was the standard guide used by the British and American forces during the Revolutionary : Stephen Payne Adye. The treatise covers the military criminal justice system defined by the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the Manual for Courts-Martial, and judicial decisions.

Moreover, unlike similar books, it also includes extensive discussion of statutory and regulatory administrative mechanisms available to commanders to enforce discipline and punish misconduct in their units.
